Micaela Myers
Welcome to the website for Micaela Myers. I am an American-based writer and editor.
After completing my BA in literature and writing, I earned my MFA in creative writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. My short stories have been published in a number of journals and earned several awards. I'm currently working on my memoir.
Since 2002, I've been a professional magazine editor and writer. I started my editing career at Horse Illustrated Magazine. From there I moved to the successful startup Firebrand Media LLC in Laguna Beach, Calif. As group editor, I oversaw Laguna Beach Magazine (winner of the 2010 and 2012 Maggie award for Best City Magazine), Newport Beach Magazine, Bespoke Magazine, Montage Magazine, Preferred Lifestyles magazine, Loews Magazine and Sea Island Life magazine. I also created a variety of other custom marketing copy, including blogs, enewsletters and web copy.
In the summer of 2013, we made the move to Laramie, Wyo., where I took on the role of writer and editor for the University of Wyoming's flagship publication, UWyo Magazine.
In addition to my day job, I'm a freelance writer, editor and content creator. I've also written three equestrian books: The Horse Illustrated Guide to Trail Riding and Trailering (BowTie Press), and Knack Leg and Hoofcare for Horses (Globe Pequot Press).
I love to travel and have been to 14 countries so far, in addition to living in the eastern Caribbean for a year. At Firebrand, I often wrote travel articles.
I have two adopted dogs, and I have volunteered with a number of nonprofits. I currently run a free pet pantry in Laramie, volunteer with the Wyoming Coalition for Animal Protection and write for RAD Advocates, which educates about Reactive Attachment Disorder in children.
