Micaela Myers began writing poems before she could write herself, appearing at her mother’s bedside, chanting, “I’ve got a poem, I’ve got a poem!” After earning her bachelor’s degree in literature and writing, she went on to pursue an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Micaela's short fiction garnered publications in many literary journals, including the Mississippi Review online, Boston Literary Magazine, Short Story, Paper Street, and Spire. A simultaneous submission accepted to City Works San Diego taught Micaela a hard lesson when famed writer Amy Tan later wanted to publish it in the L.A. Times magazine fiction section. Micaela’s stories also took first place in the River Oak Review’s fiction contest and Binnacle’s Ultra-Short Competition.
In her day job, Micaela is an award-winning magazine editor. She started her editing career at Horse Illustrated Magazine. From there, she moved to the successful startup Firebrand Media LLC in Laguna Beach, Calif. As group editor, Micaela oversaw Laguna Beach Magazine (winner of two Maggie awards for Best City Magazine), Newport Beach Magazine, Bespoke Magazine, Montage Magazine, Preferred Lifestyles magazine, Loews Magazine, and Sea Island Life magazine, among others. She also created a variety of other custom marketing copy, including blogs, e-newsletters, and SEO web copy. Since 2013, Micaela has served as the writer and editor for the University of Wyoming's flagship publication, UWyo Magazine.
Micaela is also the author of three equestrian books: The Horse Illustrated Guide to Trail Riding and Trailering from BowTie Press, and Knack Leg and Hoofcare for Horses from Globe Pequot Press. She is currently working on a memoir and a young adult book about real-life superhero kids, to be published by Ardea Herodias Books.
